Uganda could miss the services of defender Godfrey Walusimbi for Saturday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Liberia.
On top of fitness issues, the left back is having domestic problems that have kept him out of Cranes training at Namboole.
Walusimbi is also said to have fallen out with Congolese side Don Bosco for unclear reasons.
He joined the side in January for a reported $30,000 from Uganda’s Vipers. The defender has not played since the 2-0 defeat to Liberia in March and the illness of his partner has not helped matters.
“For me he is the best left back in Africa,” said Cranes coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic of Walusimbi, adding, “But now he is not in a clear state of mind to play on Saturday. But we will slowly monitor his situation.”
News, however, coming thorough is his partner was discharged from hospital on Wednesday afternoon and Walusimbi was due to train with the team.
“His wife has been discharged and he has joined the camp,” confirmed Cranes media manager Fred Katende Malibu, adding, “The coach will asses him before making final decision.”
Should Walusimbi not make it, however, Asante Kotoko star Joseph Ochaya and Sporting CP left back are the possible replacements.
