Congo hope to continue positive road to Brazil

Congo will be out to maintain their status as leaders of Group E when they come up against a Gabon side desperate for a win to improve their chances of qualifying for the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

The match will take place on Saturday afternoon at the Franceville Stadium, with kick-off at 15h30 (CAT).
Qualification to take part in the most prestigious football tournament is starting to heat up in Group E with only one team, Congo, having taken maximum points out of the three games already played.
The Diables Rouges managed to maintain their 100% record when they beat Gabon 1-0 back in March and they will now be looking to do the double over their adversaries when they head over to the Northwest.
It was a 1-0 victory which was handed to them courtesy of Premier League striker Christopher Samba and it allowed them to maintain their gap over an impressive Burkina Faso side who trounced Niger 4-0.
“The goal is to continue to progress, to move forward. Like other teams, we would like to qualify for the World Cup, but we are still far away,” said Congo coach Kamel Djabour.
“There are many selections stronger than ours that are also seeking qualification, but we will try to go as far as possible. It must not be forgotten that the Congo is a small country, and it does not have a large pool of players.
“We can learn from the progress that has been made in recent years by Cape Verde, who reached the quarterfinals of the last CAN.”
Meanwhile, The Panthers have struggled to light up their group with positive results, having only acquired three points and they now sit at the bottom of their group.
With their only victory coming in a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso, Paulo Duarte will be hoping that he can get his side in order and use their home form to their advantage on Saturday.
A loss would undeniably put them in the unfavourable position of abdicating their chances of a spot in next year’s tournament, leaving them desperate to get a result.
